Matt Larsen grew up in Richland, WA where he began playing drums from an early age under the guidance of his father, also a jazz drummer. After high school, Matt played drums in the Columbia Basin College Jazz Ensemble for two years while earning his AA degree. In 2007 he transferred to Central Washington University and immediately auditioned into CWU’s Jazz Band 1, one of the northwest’s premier collegiate jazz bands. While completing his degree in Music Education, Matt performed all over the Northwest and California with the jazz band and also performed in top combos and for graduate and faculty jazz recitals. Matt began playing gigs at wineries and restaurants towards the end of high school and attributes his high level of musicality, groove and style to a myriad of experiences, both in and out of school. Now a music teacher in the Pasco School District, Matt continues to stay very active in the jazz scene as a sideman and bandleader.
